37th Micro Worlds are over and it is the host nation Poland that has many reasons to be satisfied.
Not only that they have successfully organized this years Worlds, but they also managed to win all three medals to keep the podium for themselves.
This years Micro Worlds were a part of the over a week long sailing festival “Volvo Gdynia Sailing Days” that took place in Gdynia, the capital of sailing in Poland. The race course was outside of the Marina in Gdynia, on the cold waters of the Baltic sea. Great turn out with the 46 crew participating at the event guaranteed that the quest for the throne would be hard.
During the 6 days of races, we had every possible conditions, starting with the strong winds of 25 knots on the day 1 and 2, down to the very light wind that caused race postponement on the days 4 and 5, with the day 6 coming with no wind for the one remaining race. This was a good test for the competitors and showed them well where they are good and where they could be better.
In the end, a well deserved victory and another World Champion title for POL 77 – Piotr Tarnacki, Rafal Becker and Krzysztof Mongird with a 1 point edge over the runners up POL 90 – Piotr Ogrodnik, Piotr Petryla, Grzegorz Banaszczyk. The third place went to POL 290 – Marcin Celmerowski, Wojciech Moczkowski, Oskar Sleziona.
It was a great honor to have Mr. Carlo Croce, the President of ISAF to present the medals and trophies to the winners.
